Day #15: Fandom Wrapped.
Your top 5 fandoms for 2023 were:
1. BBC Merlin - I picked several fics to podfic for fests.
2. Supernatural - I looked over some Podfic Swap options for treats.
3. What We Do In The Shadows (TV) - Mostly, more Podfic Swap treat consideration.
4. Harry Potter - I passed along some event promos that were open to podfic.
5. Prodigal Son - I haven't left that one Discord.
Your top 5 fandom spaces (Discord, Twitter, etc.) in 2023 were:
1. Discord.
2. Tumblr.
3. AO3.
4. Dreamwidth.
5. Pillowfort.
The top 5 things you did to contribute to fandom in 2023 were:
1. I shared podfic friendly events (mostly in Discord servers, a little bit on Pillowfort).
2. I tried to share some events aimed at writers, especially in Discord servers where writers make up the majority and sometimes notice those events more often.
3. Supportive emoji - offering cheering on support - in the Podfic Turtles Discord server.
4. I think I offered some answers to questions in the podfichat Discord server.
5. Some reading of fic while making lists of potential to-podfic options.
Your top 5 most appreciated fandom contributions were:
1 - 5. I'm reasonably certain that certain event promos were appreciated, but I honestly don't have a way to gauge how many, which ones, and in what specific places.
Your fandom personality in 2023 was (i.e. Fandom Eeyore, Twitter Refugee, Discord Party Animal, etc.):
A podfic turtle eating a flower next to the path instead of walking anywhere - I started to record a few podfic, but I didn't actually finish or post any of them (least of all finishing specific ones for events). While I didn't do nothing in 2023, it also feels like I very much was just posting proof-of-life and trying to make up for not having any podfic to share.
In 2023, you discovered:
There are certain fandom spaces where I still feel like an intruder who makes one of those 'also technically included as an art type in some events' fanwork types, but it's clear that visual art is the only art type expected or wanted. It's not even like I'm an obvious intruder where people try to tiptoe around the subject, though, and I wind up feeling like I'm just invisible when an explicitly podfic friendly [from the start] event still has some writers acting like podfic is the lesser match. Considering how much certain writers dislike podfic, you'd think they'd remember there were podficcers in the same fandom space as them.

Date: 2024-01-31 12:40 am (UTC)Podfic is very time-consuming to create, and is a true art form of its own. Is a performance of a play not a worthy contribution? How about a musical performance?
I am sorry that you've been made to feel lesser or unwelcome, in any fandom space. It's not right.

Date: 2024-02-01 10:53 pm (UTC)I didn't really get around to making podfic in 2023, so I tried to not focus on that as the only marker of contributing to fandom.

Date: 2024-02-01 11:10 pm (UTC)The comments and enthusiasm about non-podfic art options were in a slightly negative area of interpretation moreso than outright saying anything that a mod could have intervened on. Targeting a podficcer or outright saying 'I hate podfic' would have been way more clear cut than trying to describe vibes. Even if it wasn't exactly fun, I did find out that I don't have to hang out in the 'basically writers' area of an event chat space.
