Day #14: In your own space, do the Fandom Wrap Challenge.

What were your top 5 fandoms for 2022 based on the amount of time you interacted with them?
1. Merlin - Doing that Big Bang podfic, really.
2. Harry Potter - Most podfics of 2022, due to several fests and/or events.
3. Prodigal Son - Next up on number of podfics.
4. What We Do In The Shadows (TV) - Most of the time was actually browsing this fandom for potential treats.
5. The Little Shop of Horrors - I had to find something for Voiceteam, so there was a lot of browsing.

What were your top 5 fandom spaces (Discord, Twitter, etc.) you experienced fandom in terms of time spent?
1. Discord.
2. Tumblr.
3. AO3.
4. Dreamwidth.
5. Due to an event, Livejournal.

What are the top 5 things you did to contribute to fandom in terms of time? Did you write? Comment? Send positive energy into the universe? Create art?
1. I created podfic.
2. I did have to read some fic in order find anything for #1.
3. I also left play-by-play comments on each chapter of a multi-chapter fic that I was gifted in an exchange.
4. I wrote for Panfandom Hanukkah Bingo 2022 and Camelot Countdown.
5. I added at least one name to the Fanwork Permission Statements List.

What were your top 5 most appreciated fandom contributions? (i.e. in terms of likes, kudos, reblogs, comments, etc.) {I don't want to measure appreciation by kudos or comments, especially when podfic don't generally get a lot of either, so I'm just doing a list of my longest podfics.}
1. "some fictions we took to mean fate" - 5 hours, 40 minutes, and 15 seconds.
2. "A Scorpion In Molt" - 57 minutes, and 23 seconds.
3. "Letters From Along A Wandering Wind" - 48 minutes, and 17 seconds.
4. "come back as something organic" - 41 minutes, and 41 seconds.
5. "Meta Manifesto: Enemies to Lovers Stories" - 28 minutes, and 47 seconds.

Have a Top 5 List you'd like to share?? By all means! {This is a list of my shortest podfics in 2022.}
1. "Gynger" - 56 seconds.
2. "Mittens" - 58 seconds.
3. "him" - 1 minute, and 28 seconds.
4. "It's frozen?" - 1 minute, and 54 seconds.
5. "So How Many?" - 2 minutes, and 11 seconds.

Day #12: In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

One. I want to finish my 2022 to 2023 round of Podfic Bingo.

I got really ambitious with the planning and aiming for more than one bingo aspect, but I need to remember the seasonal part of the Seasonal Mental Illness. I'm two for two on not really creating podfic during parts of the autumn and winter, so I should probably stop assuming that I'll somehow force myself to finish a busy to-do list during that period of time in the future.

Two. I want to get one bingo on my Merlin Bingo card.

I've got cross-fill plans with my Podfic Bingo card, so I'm not hedging on just filling one square or anything that seems a bit nicer to my planning abilities. Each podfic submission has to be at least ten minutes long, and multi-chapter works with individual chapters more than ten minutes long can have each chapter count towards a square, so I think I can get a bingo with three works. (An 1,862 word oneshot, a 1,218 oneshot, and a 59,500 multi-chapter.)

Realistically, this isn't an arduous set of goals. It's very likely that I'll also do some other events and stuff, but I want the easy dopamine (or whatever chemical) of crossing off every item on a to-do list. I also don't want to underestimate completing that longfic in a little under a year.

Day #9: In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, time you spent in the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well.

I finished my Podfic Bingo 2021 to 2022 card with two bingos.

I took part in Voiceteam 2022. (I wouldn't go so far as to say it's The Big Podfic Event for everyone, but for me, this event has been go time.)

I completed the After Camlann Big Bang of 2022.

I still kinda-sorta burnt out on touching the fandom for a bit after finishing, so I didn't dip my toes back into BBC Merlin until some events in December. I cannot explain why I got the urge to try to write [when I've never touched writing for Merlin as a fanfic writer before], but I made an attempt for Camelot Countdown and Panfandom Hanukkah Bingo 2022.

This is not an exhaustive list of what I did in 2022. (My end of the year stats list the fandom with the most podfics as HP, and I did several events for that to happen.) Still, like last year, I hit a point in the autumn and early winter where things tapered off, and the Seasonal Mental Illness had seasonal symptoms. Imagine that. So, yeah, this list is just a reminder that I did things.

Bonus: I made a Pillowfort account. I didn't cross-post everything in my Dreamwidth or tumblr archives, but I made a point of hitting event submissions, resources, and some podfic notes. Things are a bit quiet over there, but that did take up a fair bit of my December.

Day #5: In your own space, tell us about 3 creative/fannish resources, spaces, or communities you use or enjoy.

Podfic: A Resource Index: A website that links out to all sorts of resources for creating podfic. There's stuff for how to choose something to podfic, where to host your audio files, how to edit, picking a microphone, cover art resources, music, sound effects, how to post a podfic to AO3, links to some podfic fandom events, and more.

podfichat: The permanent invite link (also listed at the above site) for a Discord server focused on podfic. There's beginner resources, a channel for equipment talk (like microphones), a channel for language help, ping-able roles to ask for help with specific editing programs (like Audacity), a channel to ask for a beta listener, a channel to share links to fandom events that accept podfic, and all sorts of channels I can't think of in detail right now. (Once you've interacted past a certain threshold, you'll gain access to the safer spaces lobby and be able to join community specific channels: aspecs-in-space, BIPOC-space, Disability-space, polyamory-polysexuality, and trans.)

It's more of a general and multi-fandom space. There's a channel for discussion for events, but the events that get talked about - like, Informal Twitter Podfic Exchange, Out of the Auditary, Podfic Bingo, Voiceteam, and so on - take place elsewhere and don't require joining this server. ITPE was still able to take place on Twitter this year, each round of Voiceteam is in its own Discord server, and there's often a Dreamwidth community or a tumblr blog for events. Example: Podfic Calendar and its tumblr version.

Podfic Turtles: A smaller Discord server, more or less as a back channel to podfichat, that was started for some people who were facing longfic and wanted to cheer each other on a bit. There's no wordcount requirement before joining, but I would like to note that it doesn't really have as much beginner stuff already there. (Not that anyone wouldn't answer a question exactly; it's just not set up to specifically answer 101 questions like podfichat.) There's a specific channel to share to-do lists, though. [I'm not sure if I can give out a permanent invite link to this server, but I think it's pinned in one of the resources channels in podfichat.]

Blanket Permission Highlighter: A browser extension that highlights creators with blanket permission to create transformative works while browsing on AO3. You can also select an option to only show works by BP creators in search results.

AO3 Enhancements [or Chrome version]: A browser extension that's not podfic specific, but I've found that it does have some beneficial aspects while browsing. I use my narrating words per minute as the "reading speed" and have the Reading Time for the work and each chapter be an estimate of how long my podfic will be. I can also hide works without using a workskin on AO3 itself, so I don't have to be logged in; I can hide works with more than a certain number of fandoms, hide certain relationship tags, and hide works from certain creators (helpful if they don't want their works podficced).

Day #4: In your own space, add something to your fandom’s canon.

I don't want to equate a fictional character's death with an actual person's death, but a part of me does wish that some sort of nod to a community vigil could have made it into the last season of Pose. Season 3 ends in 1998 and the first Trans Day of Remembrance was in 1999, so I can understand why a modern day version of the vigil isn't nationwide at that point.

It's more... I suppose I wanted some allusion towards the community remembering Candy. Yeah, they added a lip sync category, but I only remember one instance of that pretty much right after her death. Season 3 also featured less ball scenes due to Covid-19 restrictions at the time of filming, so as a viewer, a small candle light vigil outside didn't seem quite as people heavy as a full ball scene inside.

Right now, I'm imagining a day with enough rain to justify umbrellas, so there could be a nod to the red umbrellas associated with the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers and other sex worker activism. Yeah, season 3 would have been a few years too early, but this wouldn't necessarily be about recreating a march or anything.

Challenge #3: In your own space, Scream Into the Void. Get it all out.

Sometimes I just rely on the Blanket Permission Highlighter because I feel like I'm playing a high stakes puzzle by looking at profiles.

I give blanket permission for fanworks, just ask me first :)

I can only assume that this means the person will always give permission to anyone who asks, but like, that's still 'ask first'.

Don't repost, copy, or host podfics on any site outside of ao3

I mean, okay, sure. It just sounds like a nope to any podfics then because ao3 doesn't host them. Even if someone wants a shared link to a Google Drive upload, so it's not on a site itself, the mp3 files have to go somewhere before they can be posted onto ao3. Host does not equal post. (Some phrasing also lumps podfic in with copying and reposting fanfic in a way that seems a bit disingenuous, but this venting isn't about that.)

I give blanket permission for podfics, just let me know first

Is the Related Work Notification email not enough? (Bonus puzzling out if the profile has zero way of contacting them in the profile itself. I am not going to crawl through dozens or hundreds of fanworks to maybe find links to other sites in the end notes.) Should I give a heads up before I record, or do I need to comment after I've posted in case the email notifications are turned off? If I don't have to ask, what does 'let me know' actually mean here?

Day #1In your own space, update your fandom information!

I feel like last year's list of fandoms is still accurate, so I'll just leave a link to that.

For the most part, I updated my ao3 profile, so I have links to other places to find me. Since I also made the impromptu decision to write a few short fics for the Panfandom Hanukkah Bingo in the Merlin fandom on this account, I made it clear that I welcome transformative works, including podfic.
