Day #9: In your own space, list your Fandom Wrap categories.

What are your top five fandoms for 2021 based on the amount of time you interacted with them?
1. Prodigal Son (TV 2019): Top fandom with podfic in it (39 works).
2. Harry Potter: Second fandom (8 works) and most fest or event related works.
3. Pose (TV 2018): Third fandom (4 works) and a fair bit of series finale pondering.
4. Supernatural: Included for time spent searching for fic for treats.
5. Hannibal: Included for time spent searching for fic for treats.

What are your top five fandom spaces in terms of time spent? (AO3, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, Dreamwidth, and others.)
1. Tumblr: Exposure to different content, some fest recommendations, a sideblog for podfic.
2. AO3: Searching for fic to podfic, reading, and posting.
3. Discord: Podfichat server, a personal notes server, and if I could ever find servers for events or fandoms, those as well.
4. Dreamwidth: I've mostly used it as a backup or mirror to the tumblr sideblog and a way to remember to check Podfic Calendar.
5. Honorable mention to the Internet Archive. It's technically not a fandom space, but I've spent so much time uploading podfic there that it feels a bit rude to not say anything.

What are the top five ways you interacted in these fandoms? (Reading fanfic, writing, commenting, watching videos, chatting with friends, making art, or anything else you can think of.)
1. Reading fanfic.
2. Making podfic.
3. Leaving comments asking for permission to podfic.
4. Looking at fest rules and slowly backing away, but casually mentioning the events to others.
5. Having to email people, mostly mods for events.

What are the top five things you did to contribute to fandom in terms of time? Did you write? Comment? Send positive energy into the universe? Create art?
1. Going profile by profile in a fandom listing on AO3 and making a list of people with blanket permission, which could then be added to the FPS List.
2. Reading more fanfic than I've done in years.
3. Creating podfic: Recording, editing, uploading files, posting it to AO3, and then cross-posting to tumblr and Dreamwidth.
4. Recommending The People's Accessibility Discord server, which has channels for you to request image descriptions, audio transcripts, and video descriptions from fans.
5. I gave some writing a try.

What things did you create that took the most time?
1. "Come Undone" by Cornerofmadness - 6 hours, 54 minutes, and 13 seconds.
2. "Time After Time" by bluefay - 1 hour, 23 minutes, and 42 seconds.
3. "No Place To Hide" by Aneiria - 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 7 seconds.
4. "Because of You" by ceterisparibus - 1 hour, 9 minutes, and 58 seconds.
5. "It's Saturday; Remind Me I'm Alive" by Drarrelie - 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 38 seconds (as of Chapter 10).

My Top 5 List: What things did you create that took the least amount of time?
1. "Sweet Cream" by Lady_Ganesh - 1 minute and 33 seconds.
2. "A Broken Clock Is Right Twice A Day" by cmk418 - 2 minutes and 6 seconds.
3. "Through The Grapevine" by Drarrelie - 2 minutes and 47 seconds.
4. "Sleepover" by cmk418 - 4 minutes and 43 seconds.
5. "under another unforgiving streetlight" by smallredboy - 4 minutes and 45 seconds.

Day #8: In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, a gift of your time to the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well.

First, to provide a bit of context, I got started in certain fandoms as a writer. I wasn't quite done with a multi-chapter fic before I started uploading it to ao3, and I accidentally have more than a few people who are waiting for that fic to be done. (Actually, this could be said for two other fics as well.) Anyways, I hit a point in 2020 where I kind of felt nervous and/or sick at the thought of trying to continue those fics, trying to work on other works in progress, and for a bit, even logging into my ao3 where I'd see comments in my inbox asking if such-and-such fic was still on hiatus, asking when a new update would go up, or just 'please write more'. I struggled with creating anything, and this wall extended outside of fic to regular old blogging on other sites.

I needed to do something where I wasn't the writer. I looked at podfic resources, and I talked myself out of trying anything. I spent a lot of time arguing with myself about my vocal dysphoria and the quality of my voice. (New readers may benefit from 'Voiceteam 2021 Round 2: Commentary Challenge', which covers my acquired subglottic stenosis and permanently hoarse or raspy voice starting about three paragraphs in. I no longer have a warning in my ao3 profile about it, but most of that information still stands about needing to use a different recording and editing process in order to get a relatively 'nice' podfic voice compared to standard newbie advice.) I even felt a little guilty about trying to run away from feeling like some sort of dispensing machine because I wasn't on holiday during a global pandemic and still producing content for readers.

I'd guess that I started getting serious about giving podfic a go in the winter of 2020 and 2021, and I decided that I would make a separate fannish identity and ao3 just for podficcing. I believe most accounts were made somewhere in late January or early February of 2021, and my first podfic was uploaded to ao3 on 26 February 2021. (I suspect I'll get some sort of one year email for some of these accounts soon, but unless I were to do something special to mark the occasion, it's not a huge deal to pick one particular date.) Some offline factors interrupted my plans starting in September of 2021 and I need to reacquaint myself with the process now, but I'd say that my personal win for 2021 was giving podfic creation a shot.

Title: [Podfic] The Hot Pocket of Despair

Rating: General Audiences | Archive Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply | Fandom: What We Do In The Shadows (TV) | Category: Gen.

Relationship(s): Guillermo de la Cruz & Jenna.

Character(s): Guillermo de la Cruz, Jenna, Nadja, Laszlo Cravensworth.

Additional Tags: Guillermo POV, Episode: s01e08 Citizenship, Vampires, Awkward Conversations, Jealousy, Humor, Familiars, Podfic, Podfic Length: 0-10 Minutes, Audio Format: MP3, Audio Format: Streaming, Repod.

Time: 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.

Summary:
Nary's original summary:

I was never really that into the whole vampire thing," Jenna confessed. Guillermo stared blankly at her, jealousy boiling inside him. The gift of immortality, such immense power, given to some mediocre girl who 'wasn't that into the whole vampire thing.' "Even when I was going through my Twilight phase, I was always Team Jacob," said Jenna with a sigh. "He was just so much cuter.

Day #5: In your own space, talk about an idea you wish you had the time / talent / energy to do.

A to podfic idea that I'm not sure when I'll have the time to do:

  • "An Image of Lethe" by Lomonaaeren - 168,375 words; 43 chapters. My word count to time estimate comes in at 18 hours and 42 minutes to 23 hours and 23 minutes. Harry Potter  fandom; it deals with a Dark Magic affinity detector.

I can't say this the longest fic I've run across or anything, but it's the longest fic I have pencilled in to ask for permission for. In the course of searching for a Podfic Bingo fic in the summer of 2021, I came across this fic that I read ages ago and I have a weird amount of nostalgia for it. It's probably going to sit at the bottom of my ask list for the foreseeable future.

An idea that I don't have the skill set or inclination for:

  • Creating cover art for my podfic.

There's not exactly a shortage of resources for digital or graphic art online. I've had to do a small amount of messing around for a class way back when, and I managed to put something together after I realised that a fest required writers to include an art element [after sign ups] a few years back. However, it was painful, and I was not surprised when someone else won the community poll's award for best art. I have only included cover art in podfic when someone else has made it.

An idea that I currently don't have the energy to do:

  • Figure out a way to explain Ordinary Joe  for fannish use.

I used to have something about losing energy for a fic I started writing for a Voiceteam 2021 challenge here, but then I tried to look for a Reddit for this show (a bit easier to look for fannish activity than Twitter, in my experience). After glancing through OrdinaryJoeFans, there's some level of confusion even amongst people currently watching the show and a desire for a spreadsheet to keep track of each universe. I feel that.

The premise isn't intolerable, really. One character [Joe Kimbreau] is at a crossroads, and canon is a mix of three AUs that look at how his life plays out from certain decisions he made after graduation in 2011. Each version has a certain colour scheme, which in theory helps differentiate them, so there's a mix of using colour and which Joe is it to talk about the different versions of the other characters. Nurse Joe and Jenny, Blue Amy, Red Frank, Green Nurse Joe. The only character with a different name in each version is the kid - Christopher, Lucas, or Zeke. It's not like the Wikipedia page doesn't do an alright job with a basic explanation, but I would probably give up out of frustration at trying to track the details for a fannish work.

Day #4: In your own space, make a list of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, and/or that you'd like someone to create or do for you.

Wish #1: In line with analise010's first wish, create a transformative works statement. (There are helpful resources about phrasing and how to do that at that link.)

Please assume that you're dealing with a stranger. They might be looking for an Unfamiliar Fandom fill, so they have no idea about your fandom's specific drama that went down five years ago relating to a gift exchange. If they're approaching you via AO3 comments, they might not know how to find you on LiveJournal or Dreamwidth already. They have no idea how you feel about transformative works if your AO3 profile is blank, so they might try asking you with zero idea of what's in your sticky posts or tags elsewhere. They might have found your work by a specific AO3 tag search, so they may not know the best way to contact you that you put in the end notes of your 55th fic.

It's fine if you put, "No, I do not give permission for anyone to create podfic of my fanfic." You can get as specific as you want if that's what makes you comfortable (only works rated Teen or Mature, if it's view-locked to logged-in users you must copy that to the podfic, only works tagged #Podfic Welcome, etc.). I'd appreciate if anyone who wants to be asked first indicated their preferred means of contact, especially if they don't reply to AO3 comments, but an "ask first" is still an alright transformative works statement. This isn't something that can have a 'wrong' answer, you know?

Wish #2: If you've never tried looking for a fic with permission to podfic before, consider giving it a go.

You definitely do not have to try to podfic the fic, and it's alright if you don't have the spoons or energy to try this type of search more than once. To make this not seem pointless, try recommending a work - fic or meta - that can be podficced without asking the author from one of your fandoms in the comments. (I am not making any promises to personally podfic all of the rec'ed works, but I'll try reading almost any rec that doesn't delve into suicide or suicidal ideation or feature a Teacher/Student ship.)

If you're not sure how to start looking for a work that could be podficced: It depends on the tagging whims of the fandom and sometimes how large it is, but you can try searching within the Blanket Permission or Podfic Welcome tags on AO3, or look for your fandom in the Fanworks Permission Statements List or FPS List.

Wish #3: Sometimes, I'd really like a magical pronunciation cheat sheet to appear when I'm trying to podfic in an unfamiliar fandom for a gift.

Practically speaking, I could ask someone in the Podfichat server or hope I could DuckDuckGo "how to pronounce Name". I'm sure there's always someone who would suggest watching the tv show or movie long enough to pick up the pronunciation of locations or in-world stuff, or they'd point that this is what betas could do. I dunno if pronunciations could be a thing that fandom wikis could include, but I'm more grumbling to myself. I'm not opposed to reading fanfic for a canon I'm unfamiliar with for a gifted podfic; I'm just very wary of sounding like I'm butchering words and names.

Day #2: In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

As of 23 February 2022, I've finished working on my Podfic Bingo card. )

Two. I have several not yet completed podfics from 2021 that I'd like to finish and post.
I have a What We Do In The Shadows (TV) fic from that overly ambitious treat list. I'm on Chapter 10 of 52 for a weekly epistolary fic. Lightly pencilled in, two and a half: That Voiceteam 2021 challenge. Actually, like, two challenges that aren't yet done.

Three. I need to make a decision about what's still on the To Podfic list from 2021.
I have three or four Prodigal Son fics that I've been carrying over from a To Podfic list from last spring. I have a list specifically for a prolific writer with blanket permission to podfic in that fandom (like, 20 of the over 180 fics). I have a few tentatively liked fic from browsing for Podfic Bingo options.

As of 7 January 2022, I've signed up for the After Camlann Big Bang 2022 as a podficcer (technically, an artist). )

Day #1: In your own space, update your fandom information!

I'm not sure if I've tried to list my fandom information on this account, so I guess we'll make it in the first place.

So far, I've mostly podficced within the Prodigal Son (TV 2019) fandom. It was cancelled in 2021 after two seasons, and you may or may not have seen some attempts to save it.

I have enough familiarity to also consider these other fandoms:
~ All Creatures Great and Small (TV 2020).
- The US airing is one season behind the UK series. (We're just getting ready to start season or series two, as of January 2022.)
~ Charmed (TV 2018).
- This is the CW reboot.
~ Criminal Minds (US TV).
- The show ended in 2020.
~ Evil (TV 2019).
- I've only seen season one. (It moved to Paramount Plus, so I'm not quite sure what season it's on by now.)
~ Hannibal (TV).
- Honestly, I haven't seen anything after season one, but I'm okay with some canonical fuzziness when reading Hannigram.
~ Harry Potter:
- Alright to: the books or Lightning Generation, and to the Marauders Era.
- No, thank you to: Next Gen, The Cursed Child, and the Fantastic Beasts franchise. I have no idea of what's going on with any video game or app based game featuring the HP franchise either.
~ NCIS.
- My family's been watching this forever, and I'm kind of hoping it'll wind down after the past few seasons.
~ Roswell New Mexico (TV 2019).
- Another CW reboot.
~ S.W.A.T. (TV 2017). (Sort of.)
~ Supernatural.
- I honestly can't remember some of the plot twists and early canon, so please don't quiz me on anything.
~ The Exorcist (TV).
- It ran for two seasons from 2016 to 2017, and you can ignore most of The Exorcist franchise (see wiki). Most fic ships the two priests together, and there's probably some blasphemy and gay guilt with franchise expected Catholicism.

It's possible that I'm forgetting some other fandoms due to tumblr exposure, but I think that's enough for now.
